Properties Exposed aggregate concrete is a robust, cement-bound screed for indoor and outdoor use. It is stable, non-skid and weatherproof. The texture and colour of the surface can be adapted to the specific site requirements by selecting particular pebble grades. Exposed aggregate concrete floors are practically maintenance-free.
Materials/processing Exposed aggregate concrete (or washed concrete) floors consist of a levelling course at least 25 mm thick and a 10-30 mm layer of pebble-cement mixture. A compulsory mixer is used for preparing the materials. Shortly before the surface has cured, the cement component is washed off. The pebbles used to make washed concrete floors are natural materials. Usually, rounded pebbles from quarries, rivers and lakes are used. Some applications require chippings of various colours from different quarries. Almost any decorative appearance can be obtained thanks to the wide variety of materials available.

Application Washed concrete floors are suitable for high-status buildings such as office buildings, schools, hotels, shopping centres or hard-surfacing in open spaces. The flooring can also be used as a decorative element for staircases, entrance halls, corridors and terraces. Another application is the lining of plinths and façades. |
